Male Advocacy Group Created at University of Chicago

with 2 comments

Female advocacy groups are active all around the nation, but have you ever heard of a male advocacy group?

Well, that is exactly what a group of students just started up at the University of Chicago, according to a report by the Chicago Tribune.  The leader of the group, Steve Saltarelli, created the group basically by accident.  After writing a satirical piece, he received a great deal of interest from other students in creating a mens-advocacy group.  Men in Power was created.

As the group continues to gain steam both on Facebook and on the campus itself, it has raised a bunch of questions among people all around the country.  Do men really need an advocacy group?  In the report, students have questioned whether there is any point to creating such a group.

Do you believe male advocacy groups have a part in student organizations on college campuses?

  1. Why not? Men are now only 40% of college graduates. Their life expectancy is 7 years less than women (a difference that was only 1-year back in 1905). They have way higher suicide rates. When it comes to reproduction women have all the rights, and men have all the responsibilities. In divorce, a woman’s obligations are terminated upon filing, a man’s usually continues for many years as child-support, and sometimes until death as lifetime alimony. (Also note that 70% of divorces are filed by women).

Taking all these factors into account, Young Men really do need their own advocacy/rights group. OSU can probably benefit from the same.

  2. I am so glad that men are realizing that they need support. State by state studies should be done to see which states are negligent and uncaring of men’s rights by allowing women to lie and say they have been assaulted when they have not. Men have been losing their homes, businesses and reputation by vindictive women who drag them into court based on false claims. A a result of this climate of injustice toward men, time and sympathy is being taken away from women who are being abused; decent, innocent men are losing homes, businesses, having their reputations damaged, and are forcibly estranged from their children. Increasingly, children are being killed by women who want to erase them from their lives and start anew. Remember Susan Smith? The children’s father begged for his children but didn’t get them in time to prevent their death at their mother’s hands. Casey Anthony murdered beautiful little Caley. Andrea Yates killed her five children. And, what about the doctor who rode over her husband with his daughter in the car? That little girl had to have suffered trauma but we hear nothing about that. And, the doctor only got twenty years for that brutal murder. A man would have gotten life without parole or the death penalty. Community property laws need to be adjusted also.

Please, keep me informed of the progress made by the Chicago group.
