Kris Allen Beats Adam Lambert in American Idol Finale

with 17 comments

Well, whoever coined the phrase “Anything is possible” was absolutely right (thanks Kevin Garnett).

Despite being a heavy underdog in the American Idol Finale on Wednesday night, Kris Allen ended up stealing the show from favorite Adam Lambert.  Lambert handled his loss with class, and was respectful of Allen’s victory after the champion was crowned.

Allen, who many have compared to current Top-40 sensation Jason Mraz, is a talented musician who put a different spin on every single song he sang.  Many of his performances featured the acoustic guitar—and along with Scott MacIntyre, Kris was one of the most active dual vocals-instrumentation artists in this year’s competition.

Adam Lambert had an awesome run on the show—establishing himself as the favorite as early as the Top 8 competition, where he performed the song “Mad World.”  There were some studies on search trends, and Lambert came out on top of all of his competitors in most weeks.

Do you believe that Kris Allen is worthy of being named the American Idol?

  1. Personally, I am disappointed in America for voting against what is not the ordinary for them instead of for the best artist/vocalist — my sense of integrity is wounded. Not wishing to down Kris Allen, a talented person with an impecable background — however, even Allen knows the results are not right. But that’s what we Americans do sometimes — vote against change instead of for truth.

  2. We truly believe that the Lambert Family knew that Adam didn’t win as early as Tuesday night. There were many very subtle indicators that maybe deserve a careful rewind. Here are a few….

Our little survey indicated that most people agree the Lambert Family looked uncomfortable and unhappy on Tuesday night. They did not express the usual joy and excitement shared in all previous shows.

In addition, in previous shows, Lambert seats were near the judges and in lit areas. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they were moved to the other side of the theater. They were not placed in a lit area that would be easily usable for the camera. We also noted that Adam did not act his usual smiley self during the judging. Something was wrong…

As a former CATV producers, we knew something was up when Ryan took more time talking to Kris’ parents than Adam’s. At that point we knew Adam did not win.

Note that Simon did not stand and applaud Kris upon the winner announcement. Hummmmm….

  3. America quite predictably got the result so wrong! But for a country that is so steeped in conservatism and traditionalism, should we be surprised? Even Kris Allen knows that the Idol crown should have been Adam’s! He said as much when the announcement that he had won was made! And Simon Cowell’s face said it all! Watch the videotape back! He was clearly disappointed! Still, the saving grace for Adam is that he won’t be remembered for the awful Idol winner’s song! Kris will quite rightly have that cross to bear!

  4. OH COME ON!
I wish everyone would get a grip.
Not everyone is into Adam’s style, he’s an over performer, quite obviously brilliant, but the way everyone called him the winner from week one made him arrogant.
I think people are forgetting that Kris was also brilliant, just take his rendition of Heartless. Of course Kris said “Adam deserves this” because the poor guy hadn’t been given any chances to even THINK he was going to be the winner.
In the end, this was a competition. IT’s supposed to be fair. Stating Adam as the obvious winner weeks before the end was wrong.
I hope both of them receive every success and are happy.
    Congratulations Kris. YOU deserve this.

  5. Being ignored by the judges is unfair but it actually works to a contestant’s advantage in gaining the underdog vote. And Adam has been anything but arrogant - do not blame him for the actions of the AI judges.

Yes Kris sang some good songs and a few great ones but, no, he did not rise to Adam’s level. The manipulative behavior of the AI producers does not excuse the fact that if AI votes were based on the level of musical performance by the contestants, Adam would have won. Moral Kris knows he did not deserve to win AI over Adam and he has aid so quite openly.

We should try to be as honest as Kris if we are going to address some of the problems underlying yesterday’s results. Let’s wish Kris and Adam success in their careers but let’s not ignore the very real prejudices that still corrupt our wonderful country. Homophobic atacks on Adam have been rampant on internet forums. Churches! organized anti-Adam campaigns. Roll up your sleeves - there is work to be done to buld a more tolerant, accepting society here in the USA.

    Be as honest as Kris

  6. America chose the safe one again. Disappointing, not surprising and in a way sad for the winner, who will always, always be overshadowed by Adam Lambert. Best of luck to him. But Adam’s star will still keep rising higher and brighter with or without some TV show title. That will be the real prize.

  7. Adam will do much better with his second place finish than he would have if trapped in the American Idol/19 machine. He would have had to sing songs the Idol franchise chose for him and would have not been able to move on with his own creativity.
Kris will fit smoothly into the Idol package. He is humble, sweet and talented and has a great voice and manner.
Each of these guys are in the place that is best for his career.

  8. All Adam Lambert does is scream. What’s up with that? And this is his signature on his talent? It was annoying and a turn off. Humility goes a long way and Kris Allen epotomizes that virtue. Adam’s “drama queen” presence was also a turn off. I love talent but not when it is over the top. Maybe if more people strive to be humble, they will realize success. In any event, Adam will survive and surely make records. Kris will create art. Therein lies the difference.

  9. I find the comments regarding Adam’s sexual preference and the assumption that this is why he did not win laughable. It’s a talent / popularity contest with the American public. It is what it is, and that is a win for Kris. Those of you who want to play the political card have no place in this conversation and need to get a real life. You think that America is obsessed with these issues. We are not, and are only subjected to this discourse when leftists push it on us.

    This is entertainment, that’s all!

  10. Adam is pure talent. Kris is sweet. I only started watching the show because of Adam Lambert. Kris belongs on a farm with his girlfriend and a couple of kids. I’ll never watch another ‘American Idol’, America’s got a ways to go. This show had reached its peak because of the Adam Lambert hype, Simon will probably leave the show.

  11. I used to love watching american idol when it first began. It was something new and exciting. Raw talent being discovered in front of everyone’s eyes. Then, the more I watched the more I saw that it was all a big popularity contenst. All of the real talent never wins the competition. It’s always about “who is cuter and who would I picture myself dating?” I stopped watching when they kicked Chris Daughtry off the show seasons ago. Taylor Hicks was AI, what a joke. The only reason I watched again was because of Adam. He deserved to win and we ALL know it. Rock on Adam!

  12. I was never one to watch American Idol but for some reason, this year, I just got into it. Never thought that I would get into the Adam Lambert thing but as each week went by he just never ceased to amaze me with not only an incredible voice but how creative he was with each song he sang and above all, how he could adapt himself to any song that was given to him. A true artist in my eyes. For me Adam is the winner. I wish him only the best for his future career and I can’t wait to buy his first CD.

  13. Please read this. It concerns the final voting at AI. Someone posted clear evidence of voter tampering online yesterday, and I re=posted it at the AI site. You will not believe what has happened to my posts regarding this issue. Please just read on.

I read the post online yesterday giving clear evidence of voter fraud re the American Idol finals through the use of AT&T calling cards bought and distributed by Arkansas students to throw the competition in favor of Kris Allen. I copied the post and re-posted it into at least ten threads at the official AI site.

    Since yesterday….

The original post has been “mysteriously” removed from the site.

All my posts have been removed from the AI threads.

My profile and ability to post at AI has been suspended without explanation.

Clearly AI has gone through a lot of trouble to keep this under wraps. The truth must come out, however, not just for Adam’s sake but because without a fair uncorrupted voting system, AI is not worth watching.

Fortunately, I do have a copy of the post.

    Here is the original post:

“The ONLY reason Kris won is because of the 38 million votes cast by the State of Arkansas. This means that ONE state represented almost 38% of the total votes for BOTH contestants. This number is so screwed. It’s ridiculous when you consider the rest of the country and the 36 million population of California. Arkansas only has 2.8 million people in the entire state!

The week prior there were 88 million votes cast and Kris beat Danny when it was clear that Danny was favored in the finale. How did Kris Allen pull this off and where did the additional 21 million votes come from the following week? Here’s how it happened…

First off there were hundreds of pre-paid AT&T cell phones given out by organized Kris Allen supporters with West Coast area codes to vote long after the lines were closed in their time zone. They also were able to text hundreds of times faster than it takes you or I to dial in, and you can ONLY text if you have an AT&T cell phone. It’s actually possible to text your vote approximately 40 times within one minute using one of the new “smart phones” which equals about 2,400 votes within an hour. I tried this experiment myself with a borrowed phone today and could do it myself. Multiply that by the extra 2 hours for the cheating phones and you get over 14,000 votes by one individual provided they keep at it non stop the entire time, and believe me there are plenty of tweenagers and college students who can do this.

Once the voting officially ended in Arkansas they switched to the phones with the west coast area codes for the remaining 2 hours. AT&T is a sponsor of American Idol. Who do you think made money on all those pre paid phones? I have a AT&T land line and I was able to vote for Adam about 25 times within 4 hours because of constant busy signals. Meanwhile someone in Arkansas had voted over 500 times that amount using power texting. You only need about 1,500 people to accomplish the amount of power text votes Kris received in addition to those around the rest of the country and the state of Arkansas who voted for him by phoning in their vote. If you remove the organizers from the equation and the number is the more realistic 60% - 40% margin that was originally predicted in Adam’s favor.

  14. Whine, Whine, Whine, Whine….Kris won. Adam was runner up. Both have talent. Both will have great careers. It’s obvious that Kris had an awesome fan base. So what? My question is, If it’s against the rules to power text, then why were the votes accepted? Hello?????

  15. I am sick of the Kris bashing. Maybe he doesn’t sing your type of music but he does mine. Not everyone loves the same style. Adamm even though talented, for me was over the top! Kris & Adam get along, why are you all arguing and bashing each other. Follow their example! I predict both will be successful in their own style with their own audience. I know alot of middle age and older viewers who loved Kris and did not like Adam. Kris is super talented as was Adam and let’s not forget Alyson and Danny. This thing about people super texting at two parties in
Arkansas swaying the vote that was 100 million votes??? Come on guys. . do the math!

  16. I too enjoyed Kris Allen’s singing, style and musicianship and believe he fully deserved to win Idol. Each of the last 6 were brilliant in their own way and when it comes down to the voting, who can really predict how it will go on the night? There are plenty of conspiracy theorists looking at every possible angle to debunk the result, but why not just accept it and move on?
