Matt Giraud: “I never came in wanting to be the American Idol”

with 3 comments

Matt Giraud, one of the top five competitors on the American Idol television show, admitted in an interview with MTV that he never really wanted to be the American Idol.

Instead, he said that his goal was just to play music on the stage.  Piano and jazz were two of Girauds’ specialties, and he did a fine job with every one of his performances.

In the interview, Giraud also said he was pleased with the way he went out.  While Simon Cowell was highly complimentary of his performance, other judges on the panel did not enjoy his performance very much, which surprised him.

Can anyone really blame Matt Giraud?  Time and time again, we have found that just because one doesn’t win American Idol does not mean that all hope is lost.  Giraud has the moxie and the stage presence to be successful in the music industry.

Giraud was also the “save” of the season.  Since the judges elected to go with a top 13 to begin the season, they allocated one week to save a contestant they felt should have had another chance to prove America wrong with their vote.

Do you think Matt should have been kicked off American Idol?

  1. Watching from my Canadian address, I have been rooting for Matt the entire season. To me, American Idol is about being an artist, not just a singer. And Matt’s talent with the piano, composing, and dancing that accompanied his incredible voice, could not be topped by anyone. No other contestant had his abilities in all of those areas. I think it was not such a big deal to go out at this stage - he was in the Top FIve and has the notoriety of being worth the first Idol Save. Great job, Matt. I had tears in my eyes watching this fine young man each week. I hope the BEST for you!

  2. I believe Matt was one of the few real and most talented contestants on American Idol. He stayed true to himself and gave it his all. Best of luck to you, Matt! This is just the beginning for you.

  3. There is life after American Idol, especially for the focused and talented individuals.
